  • Windows 7?

Late yesterday Microsoft officiallty announced the name of their new OS, Windows 7.  Windows 7?  Wait, how is it Windows 7?  Officially, MS is saying that it is thier seventh versio of Windows they are releasing.

Hmmm...let's see:  Windows, Windows 2.x, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows Vista.  Wait, that's NINE different versions.  Okay given that 95, 98, and Me are all on the same kernel (4.x), that gives us SEVEN versions.  Also given, XP and 2000 are on the same kernel version as well (5.x), that gives us the magic number SIX.  However, Vista and the new Windows 7 will share the same kernel.  In reality Windows 7 is just a rebuild of Vista, not an entirely new version.  I suppose Windows 7 sounded better than Windows 6.1.  However, I think Microsoft's marketing team colud have come up with a better name.
