  • No dog food?!?

This article raised my ire a little bit.  It seems that China in an effort to be more "sensitive" to other cultures has banned dog meat dishes in the Beijing.  What the freak?!?  Why the hell should the Chinese have to be sensitive to other cultures?  It should be the other way around.  The foreign athletes and visitors should be the ones who are sensitive and accept the fact that there are people in the world that eat different kinds of animals.  I think there is a big problem if a nation has to alter its culture for the sake of being sensitive to visitors.  Why should China have to sacrifice culture just to appease a small portion of stupid, self-centered, uncultured bigots.

I don't think any nation should ban an ethnic dish just because some ingredient may be offensive to somebody else.  Hell, I didn't see Atlanta ban pulled pork, bbq pork ribs, and bacon because they might offend the Muslim athletes and guests.  I have a suggestion, why not keep the dog meat on the menus and if the athletes and guests don't want it, then they can choose not to have it.  I would further suggest that Westerners at least sample some dog meat.  I guarantee that you will enjoy it.  If yo don't want to try it then fine, don't, but don't going around condeming it; that just makes you a bigot.

    What are your thoughts?

  • Happy 4th Everyone!

I'm going to be out of town the next few days, so don't have too much fun while I am gone.  'Till next time, be nice to each other.

  • Castle Doctrine

This story caught my eye.  Essentially what happened was Mr. Horn witnessed two men breaking into a neighbor's house.  He did what any reasonable person would have done, He called 911.  Mr. Horn gave a detailed explanation of what he was witnessing and a description of the individuals.

Now what is at issues is what followed.  Mr. Horn went outside despite being instructed not to by the 911 dispatcher.  Mr. Horn then warned the two burglars to stop, when they did not comply he shot them.  If you listen to the 911 tapes that were released you hear Mr. Horn fire a total of three shots, killing both men.

The state of Texas has a "Castle Doctrine" that was put in place several years ago.  This law essentially says you can shoot first and ask questions later whenever you feel there is a threat to life or property.  Furthermore, it does not place an obligation to retreat like similar laws in other states.

Now here's the question: "Was he justified?"

I would say that he was based on the facts of the case, and what you hear on the 911 tapes.  I would have done the same (only I would do my shooting from a distance with a scoped rifle).  I would hope that my neighbors right now would do the same, because I would do the same for them.

What are your thoughts on this?  Do you think Mr. Horn overstepped the law or was justified under the law?  Do you think he should have been indicted or do you think it was right to acquit him?

  • This is so wrong, but oh so funny...

Well before I head off into the wild blue yonder westwards to California to take care of some "business;"  I wanted to share this site that I came across:

    http://www.asian-central.com/stuffasianpeoplelike/

Some of what he writes is pretty wrong on so many levels, but sadly true to a certain extent.

Some of my favorites (in no particular order):

#35.  The Peace Sign-  This really irritates me to no end.  I see it as pointless showboating.  I do like how they describe it and supply some reasoning as to its purpose and origin.

#31.  Rice-  I like rice; do I need to have it at every meal?  Not really, but lately I crave it a lot.

#24  Chopsticks-  I carry my own set.  I think that about says it all.

    #70  Nice guys-  No comment.

#66  Taking Pictures-  I feel I may be getting into this soon.

#29  Slurping-  Note this video.  If you don't get it, you are very innocent.

Stay sane everyone.  I shall return.

  • Happy Birthday to the PC.

    http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7465115.stm

The modern PC or computer in general has turn 60 today.  To think, we went from the behemoth that filled a room, weighed over a ton, and had only 128 bytes of memory (that's 0.000122 MB of memory).  To something that fits in our bags, weighs less than three pounds, and has 8 GB of memory.  Now, if only the automobile industry can have that rapid of a rate of development...we could have had flying cars by now (well not really, but we could have had better gas mileage).

  • Celebration!

I got a job offer today.  I was expecting a call earlier last week, but it never came.  I was a little discouraged, but figured there would be others.  And today, the call came.

  • Semi-random rantings

Okay, so it has been a while since I had a serious
update.  I have been busy getting the
vestiges of school done for the foreseeable future.  There really is nothing new to report.  I am still single; I have not made any
progress in my calculations from this
    post
, and I am in the process of looking for a job.

However, I would like to take some time to expand upon the
above mentioned post.  I have to be
honest; I am a very calculating person.
I put a lot of thought into every major action.  I suppose that is why I am an ISTJ.  Sometimes it is a good thing; other times not
    so good.

I am close to graduation now, and looking for a job to begin
my professional career.  Not sure where
    anything will lead.  I’ve done what I can;
now I just have to leave it up to God.  This
brings me to a comment several people made regarding my game
    theory/relationship post.  Several people
asked me where God was in the whole picture.
I do have to admit I did neglect God in my planning.  I don’t know what my future holds, whether it
will be here in Dallas or somewhere else.
That unknown aspect of everything frustrates me.  I know it shouldn’t, but it does.

However, since I put that post up and now a few things have
changed.   Well, okay, so not a lot.  I’m still focused on one particular lady, I still
haven’t made an approach, and I’m still having trouble reconciling a few
issues.  There’s really nothing big about
these issues, but it is the ISTJ in me that makes the issues big.  I’ve been wallowing in indecision for too
long and I need to take action.  What
kind of action you ask?  Well, I just
need to man up and initiate, whatever may come of it.

This leads me to another set of issues entirely.  Sure I dated a few times before, but I had
only one real serious relationship where I was almost ready to buy a ring.  That one ended without much fanfare.  We’re still friends, but there’s no
possibility for us to resume our relationship.
Since then I almost started a relationship and tried to start another.  With the former, circumstances made it so I
had to leave before anything could develop.
The latter was a case of rejection.
Both hurt, a lot.  I was able
reconcile the first several over a year ago when I went back to California for
a visit.  The second I have reconciled
and accepted, and we remain friends.  What
does that mean now?  I don’t know.

  • Yeah Right....

Okay, some of you have seen this video:

    Or maybe this one:

Now, I seriously doubt the validity of these videos. In order to cause a kernel of corn to pop, you would need to raise the internal temperature of of the kernel to 180 degrees Celsius (that 356 degrees Fahrenheit). Now if you have a device that emits that much radiation next to your head, what would happen to it? Think about it people. I however, would like to perform this to refute the validity of it.

  • Something from the "Awww" File

    http://onthescene.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/06/06/first-pitch-surprise/

I had a tear in my eye as I saw this video.  Makes you appreciate the little things more.

  • Sometimes it just isn't funny.

I saw this comic; I wanted to laugh, but could not.  This really happened to me once.  It was really annoying when it happened.
